Norman L. Davis was born January 26, 1916, in Carrellton, Kentucky. He moved to Madison with his parents when he was a young boy. He was the son of Amanda (Smith) and Jesse Davis. His only education was grammar at Lydia Middleton Grade School, and he worked as a clerk. Davis also worked as an electrician before the war. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He was married to Ethel Davis, who was born a year after him in 1917. He rented his house on W Second St. for $10 a month. Norman and Ethel had a daughter, Catherine, in 1936. The three had another roommate, Ruth Doyle, born in 1919, who also helped pay rent in order to stay there.
Davis entered the service March 8, 1944, and was sent to Europe after training as a private. Norman was killed in action in northern France on July 29, 1944. He lies buried in the American Cemetery in Blotcherville, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal.
